Vida & Amin
Hamburg, Germany
Rugtales is a love letter to the art of Persian carpet weaving—carried forward by siblings Vida, Amin, and Tara, whose family has been part of Hamburg’s Speicherstadt rug trade for six generations. Their story is rooted in childhood memories: the scent of spices and wool, the bustle of the warehouse, and a deep respect for the cultures and hands behind every carpet. What sets Rugtales apart is a reverence for true craftsmanship. Each rug begins with natural materials—wool from mountain sheep, hand-spun and dyed with age-old pigments like madder root. The weaving process is as individual as the artisans themselves: some nomads spin, dye, and knot their own wool in tents, weaving from memory and tradition; others in city workshops follow intricate design templates. Every method, every imperfection, is celebrated as a mark of authenticity. The knüpfer*innen (weavers) are at the heart of Rugtales. Working in their own homes and on their own terms, they decide what to create, when to work, and at what price to sell—a system that honors autonomy and preserves centuries-old skills. No two rugs are alike; each is a unique work of art, shaped by the hands and imagination of its maker. Rugtales is more than a shop—it’s a bridge between worlds, connecting Hamburg to Iran, tradition to modernity, and buyer to artisan. Every rug tells a story of patience, creativity, and the enduring beauty of handwork—inviting you to bring a piece of history, and a bit of magic, into your own home
