Elisabetta Lombardo is an Italian ceramic artist, educator and writer based in Berlin, whose work is rooted in natural forms and the quiet observation of our world. Working primarily with hand-building techniques in porcelain and stoneware, she builds each vessel slowly by pinching and coiling, treating the making process as an exercise in attention and presence. Her shapes are organic yet refined, often open vases that feel meditative rather than finished, inviting the viewer to complete them with their own meaning. A former human rights and tech professional, Lombardo brings a research-driven curiosity to clay. She formulates her own glazes, often inspired by specific landscapes and geological studies, and documents the process through analog photography and writing. Her ongoing project “274 moons / 274 vases” translates the newly counted moons of Saturn into a series of hand-built vessels, each one a “metaphorical orbit” and a record of life in the studio. Alongside her own practice, she co-founded Kleistone Studio in Berlin, where she teaches hand-building, and publishes “Notes of a ceramic artist,” connecting the long history of ceramics with contemporary culture.
